The work at the Autism Center

The work that goes on at the Autism Center of Mrs. Kokkalidou is worthwile. With several activities and programs an effort is made to approach autistic children. Volunteers and trainees try, with the support of mrs. Kokkalidou, to help the children and their families to cope with the problems that occur because of the autism. The children learn to communicate in an effective way playing with another person and in fact to conquere a small step every time, which might get them out of the autism.

Joining with them, the children play and interact the way they want, without any pressure. We are just WITH them and give them unconditional acceptance whatever they do, even if they do nothing. Unconditional acceptance, love, smiles and hugs to show them that we are there with them and that we have a great time whatever they do.

The Center offers support to the parents, who are often desperate and lost, having so many thoughts on their minds. They learn how to play with their children, but they also get time for themselves and interact with other parents and volunteers. They will not be shut off of the world because of their child.

The work that is done at the Center is very significant and I wish it to go on, so that the children can learn essential skills and get out of their world in which they are emprisoned.

Congratulations, mrs. Kokkalidou
